Market Recap for Monday, July 18th, 2016 Stocks were off to a positive start Monday, with the major indices higher across the board. There were some concerns going into the session over global markets, and how they would react to the attempted coup in Turkey. But with the coup attempt unsuccessful, investors seemed to shrug off the news. For the most part, it was a quiet session. The S&P traded in just a 9 point range (compared to a current Average Daily Range of 13.63). While things were slow for the S&P and DOW, the NASDAQ was another story. The NASDAQ was on the move, leading major indices with […]
Market Recap for Sunday, July 17th, 2016 Record highs were the theme of the week, with the S&P making a new record high every day last week. But the rally was put on hold Friday, after a tragic attack in Nice, France. The attack led to cautious trading in Europe and the U.S. And then in the last few minutes of Friday’s session, news about an attempted coup in Turkey sent stocks lower. By the end of the day the indices were mixed with the S&P down 0.1%, the DOW up 0.1%, and the NASDAQ down 0.1%. Although there were some major concerns with the tragedy in France and the geopolitical risk over […]
Market Recap for Thursday, July 14th, 2016 Today all eyes were on the Bank of England (BoE). It was the BoE’s first policy meeting since the U.K. vote to leave the European Union, and traders were anxious to hear how the BoE would respond. With the BoE announcing that rates would stay the same, traders were shocked! However, the committee did indicate that the BoE could offer further stimulus in August. How did this impact trading? Well, traders quickly shrugged off the news…and global markets rallied! In the U.S., stocks opened higher and the S&P and DOW jumped to new record highs. Here’s where the major indices ended the […]
Market Recap for Wednesday, July 13th, 2016 The S&P and DOW did it again. It was with less enthusiasm and fanfare, but both the S&P and DOW pushed to new all-time highs. Although stocks ended the session mixed, the S&P and DOW extended their win-streaks to 4 consecutive days. However, the NASDAQ wasn’t so lucky and ended the session with a loss. After 3 strong “up days”, today’s choppy session was the result of 3 things: Global markets – The rallies in the last few trading sessions have been helped out by a post-Brexit recovery in global stocks. However, this morning trading got off to a choppy start with […]
Market Recap for Tuesday, July 12th, 2016 Stocks finished higher for the third straight day. Today’s rally brought the S&P and DOW to levels never seen before. The S&P ended today’s session with a new all-time high. And the DOW joined the all-time high party with a new all-time intraday high as well. After trading at new all-time highs, the DOW settled just 3 points away from its record close. Stocks were helped out again by rallies in global markets. The move higher was largely due to comments from Central Banks – Both the Bank of Japan and the Bank of England suggested that more stimulus was on the […]
We did it! It took almost 14 months and two 10%+ retracements. But as of today the S&P has a new all-time high! – Click here..
Market Recap for Sunday, July 10th, 2016 This is crazy! Two weeks ago traders believed that the sky was falling: The U.K. did the unthinkable and voted to leave the European Union. The decision shocked the world and global markets tanked. After the Independence Day holiday on Monday, stocks traded back and forth for most of the week. But on Friday, a better than expected Jobs Report sent the major indices rocketing higher. And all of the sudden the S&P was flirting with all-time highs! Average Hourly Earnings were up 0.1% vs. a 0.2% expectation, and the Unemployment Rate ticked higher to 4.9% vs. a 4.8% forecast. But it was the […]
